Taylor Swift’s legion of fans are convinced she managed to slip out of Travis Kelce’s suite after watching his Kansas City Chiefs trounce the Chicago Bears in, of all things, a popcorn cart.
“She’s in there,” people could be heard saying. “That’s her.”
“You can’t convince me Taylor didn’t leave in the popcorn cart,” reads the video caption, which generated over 212,000 likes.
One fan imagined Swift telling security, “Just throw a huge bag on top and make it look legit like the cleaning cart,” while another joked, “She’s like, ‘Yeah, I’ll just hop in there. I’m used to it.’”
“You can’t fool Swifties,” a third person charged.
Earlier this year, Swift was filmed being wheeled backstage in a janitor’s cleaning cart before taking the stage at a concert.
But TMZ later confirmed that Swift did not sneak out of the suite in the popcorn cart and walked out like a normal person with Kelce’s family and entourage.
Clad in Kansas City merch, Swift was spotted cheering next to Kelce’s mother, Donna, during Sunday’s game between the tight end’s Chiefs and the visiting Chicago Bears.
Her appearance came after Kelce said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show that he “threw the ball in her court” and invited Swift to a Chiefs game.
“I’ve seen you rock the stage at Arrowhead [Stadium],” he told McAfee he said to her. “You might have to come see me rock the stage at Arrowhead and see which one’s a little more lit. We’ll see what happens in the near future.”
An insider told PEOPLE that after the 12-time Grammy Award winner heard about the invite, she quickly accepted.
“Taylor is very focused on work right now and hanging out with her girlfriends,” the source said. “Travis invited her to the game, and of course she said ‘yes.’ She just thought it was a fantastic way to spend Sunday.”
Earlier in the summer, Kelce said he was “butt hurt” when he attended a Kansas City stop on Swift’s Eras Tour and she didn’t have time to meet up.
“If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets,” Kelce said during a chat with his brother Jason on their New Heights podcast. “And I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it.”
“Your number as in 87, or your phone number?” his brother asked.
“You know which one,” Kelce quipped.
Jason, who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles, was asked about his brother’s crush on 94.1 WIP earlier this month.
“I don’t really know what’s happening in Travis’ love life. I try to keep his business kind of his business and stay out of that world,” Jason said. “But having said that, I think he’s doing great and I think that it’s all 100% true.”
After Sunday’s win, the Chiefs locker room was buzzing about Kelce and Swift, including coach Andy Reid, who joked that “I set them up.”
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said Kelce told him Swift was coming to the game at “the last minute.”
“There’s some things with Trav where he kind of just says it and you don’t know if it’s true or not. He says it so calmly, I mean I remember one time he was like ‘Hey I’m going to go to one of the playoff baseball games,’ and I’m like you said it so randomly and then he just went.”
Even New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick weighed in on the possible new couple, telling The Greg Hill Show it would be a coupe for the tight end.
“Well, I would say that Travis Kelce’s had a lot of big catches in his career. This would be the biggest.”
Following the game, the two were all smiles as they left the stadium with one another for dinner at a local restaurant which the pop star allegedly paid to clear out.
“She just paid for everybody in the restaurant so they would leave,” a fan alleged in a since-deleted TikTok video (per Page Six).
“They were eating and the waitress came up to them and said, ‘Here’s the deal. Everything’s paid for, but you have to leave, like, right now,’” she said. “How freaking insane is this?”
But as the Internet quickly dubbed the potential new couple “Traylor,” fans began finding some unsavory details as they parsed through Kelce’s dating history.
While promoting his E! series Catching Kelce in 2016 on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, the two-time Super Bowl winner said he likes to sleep with women before he gets to the fourth date with them.
“I don’t want to say it’s a deal breaker, but it … puts some questions in there,” Kelce said at the time. When he was asked about dating women who don’t like to give oral sex, Kelce said, “Sounds like a deal breaker to me.”
After being in a relationship for five years, Kelce split up with journalist Kayla Nicole in 2022.
“I’m in the free market right now. I’m out there just enjoying life, focused on my profession,” Kelce said during an interview with The Pivot Podcast.
Meanwhile, Swift split from her longtime beau Joe Alwyn in April.
After dating high-profile stars like Joe Jonas, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer, Harry Styles, Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston, Swift said she liked the “normalcy” in her relationship with Alwyn.
“I think that in knowing him and being in the relationship I am in now, I have definitely made decisions that have made my life feel more like a real life and less like just a storyline to be commented on,” Swift told Paul McCartney during a 2020 interview for Rolling Stone. “Whether that’s deciding where to live, who to hang out with, when to not take a picture … it’s really just trying to find bits of normalcy.”
But we’ll have to wait and see how normal things stay if Kelce becomes “the 1.”
