Former Chicago Blackhawks associate general manager Jeff Greenberg has been named the new general manager of the Detroit Tigers, the team announced on Thursday.

Greenberg, 37, will report to president of baseball operations Scott Harris, and joins the Tigers after spending the last 16 months with the Blackhawks.
Greenberg will become the 20th general manager in the 123-year history of the club.
Before joining the Blackhawks, Greenberg spent 11 seasons with the Chicago Cubs, including the last three as assistant general manager, and played a key role in the 2016 World Series championship.
The Tigers have been without a general manager since long-time GM Al Avila was fired in 2022. In the interim, director of baseball operations Scott Harris has essentially been holding the position.
The Tigers are 71-81 and this season and have long been out of the pennant race.
