DUBAI: Japanese conglomerate, Sony Corporation, has been allegedly hacked by Ransomed.vc, a new group of hackers that’s been operating since September.

The incident was reported by Cyber Security Connect, an Australian cybersecurity publication on Sept. 25.

“We have successfully compromissed [sic] all of sony systems. We wont ransom them! we will sell the data. due to sony not wanting to pay. DATA IS FOR SALE,” the group adds, before declaring “WE ARE SELLING IT”, reported Cyber Security Connect.

The hack allegedly unearthed screenshots of Sony’s internal log-in page, a PowerPoint presentation, Java files, and a document tree of the entire leak housing 6,000 files.

Ransomed.vc hasn’t yet listed a price for the data, but left contact details for Sony to get in touch and announced a ‘post date’ of Sept. 28.

According to the hackers, if Sony did not oblige, the data they have will be posted online, which includes a bevy of documentation such as ‘build log files’, Java resources, and HTML data.

Many of the sample files appear to feature Japanese characters prominently.

Sony has not publicly commented on the breach or the extent of the impact it had on the company.

The hackers don’t consider themselves a ransomware group, but a ‘ransomware-as-a-service organization.

The group claims to be a secure solution for addressing data security vulnerabilities within companies, operating with strict compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Privacy Laws.

“In cases where payment is not received, we are obligated to report a Data Privacy Law violation to the GDPR agency!” the group says on its leak site, reported Cyber Security Connect.
