The growth was primarily driven by the XC60, which contributed 35% of the total volume. Additionally, the locally assembled all-electric XC40 Recharge also performed well, with 419 units sold during the period, accounting for 24% of the total volume. EV sales accounted for 27% of total sales during the nine months.
Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India, said, “It has been a remarkable three quarters with an encouraging 40% sales growth from January to September 2023 as compared to last year, driven by the XC60 and our Pure Electric offerings XC40 Recharge & C40 Recharge.”

The Swedish automaker recently launched the C40 Recharge, its second electric car offering following the XC40 Recharge in India. The C40 Recharge, which has been introduced at a starting price of Rs 61.25 lakh, ex-showroom, will be assembled locally at the company plant at Hoskote near Bengaluru and already has an order book of over 100 units. The company is aiming to achieve a fully electrified vehicle portfolio by 2030.
The C40 Recharge features a dual-motor setup – one on each axle. It is paired with a 78kWh battery pack and delivers a claimed range of 530km on a single charge. The twin motors belt out a combined output of 408 hp and 660 Nm of peak torque. Furthermore, the manufacturer claims that it can achieve 100 kmph from a standstill in just 4.7 seconds and gets a top speed of 180 kmph.
