Tupac Shakur’s 1996 BMW drive-by shooting arrest: Where’s the car after 27 years?

September 7, 1996, Las Vegas, the city of glitz and glamour, just fresh from Mike Tyson’s thumping victory over Bruce Seldon via a first-round stoppage at the MGM Grand Arena, came to a standstill just a few hours after the heavyweight bout. Tupac Shakur, a friend of Tyson and the face of the West Coast hip-hop scene, left the iconic MGM Arena preparing for a night out.
Pac, riding on the passenger seat of a black 1996 BMW 750iL sedan with the windows rolled down, left the venue. The then Death Row Records chief Suge Knight was driving the vehicle. A car with female fans stops by and clicks a picture of Pac. Fate wouldn’t know it, this would go on to become the last picture of the hip-hop star.

Moments later, a white Cadillac pulled up on the passenger side of the Tupac’s car waiting at a red light and started open firing on the BMW. Multiple shots pierced through the window and door of the sedan and hit rapper. The 25-year-old, whose bars narrated the harsh realities of life on the streets, was now living them.
The afterglow of the Tyson match disappeared and the scene quickly turned into chaos. The duo was immediately rushed to the hospital while the unknown assailants managed to flee away. Six days later, the iconic hip-hop star succumbed to his gunshot wounds, leaving behind one of the biggest murder mysteries in the US.

On Friday, 27 years after that night, the Las Vegas police department announced the arrest of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, one of the last living witnesses of the drive-by shooting. Although Keffe D isn’t known to be the gunman, he, as per prosecutors, led the entire scene.
In fact, Duane had himself admitted in interviews that he had arranged for the gun that was used in the fatal shooting.
What happened to the BMW? Where is it now?
The BMW 750iL sedan was fixed and has had multiple owners after the killing of Shakur. However, no one knew about the car’s history until four years ago when an owner found out it was actually the car that Pac was shot in as he is said to have discovered a hidden compartment on the side of the door – likely meant to store arms.
The sedan drew its power from a 322 hp, 5.4-litre V12 engine which was mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. Now, Celebrity Cars in Las Vegas, has put the car on sale with a price tag of $1.5 million (approximately, Rs 12.5 crore).
