Taylor Swift has said she is “devastated” after a fan died amid sweltering temperatures at her concert in Brazil.
The star was performing the first of three concerts as part of her Eras Tour in Rio de Janeiro when the tragic death occurred on Friday.
Fans attending the concert at the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos had reported high temperatures and the concert was briefly stopped to allow water to be passed out to the crowds.
The 33-year-old singer posted about the fan’s death on Instagram and said she would not address the situation on stage as she was “overwhelmed by grief”.
Swift said: “I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this.
“There’s very little information I have, other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young.”
She said her heart went out to the fan’s family and friends, and it was the “last thing I thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil”.
