Brannstrom is alert and has use of his extremities, the team announced. He has been transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
The incident occurred when Brannstrom was streaking down the wing near the mid-way point of the second period when Clutterbuck checked him into the boards as he entered the Islanders’ zone. He remained on the ice until trainers came out and eventually was placed on a stretcher.
There was no penalty called on the play.
Selected 15th overall by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Draft and traded to Ottawa in 2019, Brannstrom has played all six seasons with the Senators.
