For the second time in the run-up to this week’s Ryder Cup, Wyndham Clark offered up bulletin board material for Team Europe.

Days after saying he thinks he’s better than Rory McIlroy and that he would welcome a Sunday singles match versus the four-time major winner, Clark suggested that the PGA Tour season ending in August might be an advantage for his American teammates compared to several European players who continued play into September on the DP World Tour.

“I think the European team, it’s great that they got to play, but I also think they might be maybe a little mentally fatigued as this week goes on,” Clark said. “This is obviously a very intense environment and mentally challenging, and then also you put in a pretty physically demanding golf course being so hilly and up and down that, maybe come Sunday, they might be leaking oil and we’ll be fresh.”

Clark also said on Wednesday that he feels his comments about Rory were taken out of context.
From our vantage point, the context seemed fine, but Clark has a point that self confidence is a must in golf and his comments shouldn’t have be seen as a slight against McIlroy.
“If I don’t think I’m better than every player out here, then what am I doing? If I’m trying to be the best player in the world, which is what I’m trying to be, I’ve got to believe that,” Clark said.
“What am I supposed to say? If I say I think he’s better than me and he’s going to beat me, then I’m going to get ridiculed because people don’t think I have any self-belief.”
