Rohit Sharma: ‘Understand the individual first…’: Captain Rohit Sharma discloses his management strategy | Cricket News
As the team prepares to face defending champions England on October 29 in Lucknow, Rohit emphasised the importance of understanding each player as an individual and catering to their specific needs.
“I think when it comes to managing players, it’s quite important that you understand the individual first and their requirement, what are the likes and dislikes of that particular individual because you know in a team sport it’s just not about one or two individuals or few individuals, it’s about everyone,” Rohit said to Star Sports.
Rohit revealed that practising empathy plays a crucial role in his management strategy, helping him gauge how to manage both the team and individual players. He acknowledged that this practice was not innate and had been developed over the years through his personal experiences.
“I try and put myself in their shoes and think about what this individual will be needing now. So, it’s important to think like that, and you know luckily, I have got a good bunch of guys around me; the players, the support staff are quite understanding in terms of the requirements of the team, the players, and everyone.”
Understanding the unique requirements of each player and providing them with the space and freedom to execute their roles is, according to Rohit, essential for team success. He emphasised the need for players to focus on their roles and remain in the right mindset, especially during high-pressure tournaments like the World Cup.
