Minor arrested for allegedly making threats against Brentwood middle school

A minor was arrested last week for allegedly making multiple threats against a middle school in Brentwood, police said.

Police said the juvenile made school shooting-related threats Tuesday against Bristow Middle School, a school with 1,100 students southeast of Antioch. The suspect was arrested on Thursday and has been booked into juvenile hall.

In a social media post on Saturday, Brentwood police said they would deploy extra officers around the school to “alleviate parental concerns” and that they have “not unearthed any new threats.”

“Our community’s safety is of utmost importance to us, and we want to reassure everyone that we take these threats very seriously,” the department wrote on Facebook.

According to police, the school received at least two threatening text messages last week. In both instances, they did not find any weapons, nor uncover any evidence that the suspect planned to follow through on the threats.

The police department also said the school district was taking administrative actions against “those involved in sending threatening texts,” including expulsion. It was unclear if there were other suspects beyond the juvenile who was arrested.

Police said they would continue looking into the case, but that it’s unlikely they will have more details to share with parents because of laws regarding juvenile suspects and the ongoing investigation.

The district attorney’s office will also review the case.
