DUBAI: MBC ANIME, a strategic initiative between MBC GROUP and TOKYOPOP, have announced that it is debuting two original anime series this month in Japan titled “Kami. App” and “Protocol: Rain.”
MBC GROUP is the largest media company in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). TOKYOPOP is an American distributor and publisher of anime and manga. The company has published popular shonen manga series such as “Love Hina” and “Girls Bravo.”
The two shows are from the Japanese broadcasters Fuji TV and TV Asahi, and they will be available to stream on Shahid, the number one Arabic streaming service. MBC ANIME has joined the production committees of both broadcasters.
“Kami.App” is a battle-royale action story centered around high school student Goro, who is fighting against rivals to become the ultimate Kami in order to wield the power to manipulate the cause and effect of the world. Goro will have to confront his high school crush as part of the competition.
The anime will be directed by Hiroyuki Seshita, “Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters” director, and written by JIN, creator of “Kagerou Daze.”
Atsushi Ohkubo, author of “Soul Eater” and “Fire Force,” participated in some of the character designs for the show.
The show’s first season will have 13 episodes that are set to debut this year. A second season is set to debut next year.
Moreover, “Protocol: Rain” discusses the story of Shun Tokinoya, a high school student and a part-timer at an e-sports cafe, who competes in a competition titled Xaxxerion Championship for prize money. Tokinoya desperately needs to win the prize to save the passion that is keeping him going after losing his father.
The show is written by Katsuhiko Takayama, known for witting “The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat”.
Kanna Hirayama did the original character designs for the show. He is mainly known for designing characters for the popular anime “Oshi No Ko” that recently went viral for its theme song Idol.
All 12 episodes of “Protocol: Rain” will be on the Arabic streaming platform this year.
MBC ANIME is planning to introduce more anime shows to the Arab world.
