Infosys is one of India’s most big IT companies always linked with Narayana Murthy and his family. While the Murthy family definitely has major influence on the company’s legacy, the largest shareholder in the IT firm is not Narayana Murthy or Sudha Murty, Rohan Murty, or Akshata Murty.

LIC: Stake In Infosys

The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), India’s largest life insurer, has the largest stake in Infosys. With 395,772,200 shares, LIC has 9.531% ownership in the company which is of Rs 8,694 crore. Over the past year, LIC has increased its stake in Infosys which means it believes in the company’s future growth and market performance.

Other Major Stakeholders

Following LIC, the second-largest stakeholder is SBI Funds Management Ltd., with a 4.210% stake, similar to 174,813,735 shares valued at Rs 3,840 crore. The third-largest individual shareholder is Sudha Gopalakrishnan, wife of Infosys co-founder S. Gopalakrishnan, with a 2.297% stake, amounting to 95,357,000 shares valued at Rs 2,095 crore.

Narayana Murthy & Family’s Holdings

While the Murthy family no longer holds the largest stake but they have notable share in Infosys:

Narayana Murthy: Holds 0.36% of shares, down from 0.40% after gifting shares to his grandson.

Sudha Murty: Owns a 0.93% stake, which is around 3.45 crore shares.

Akshata Murty: The UK Prime Minister’s wife has a 1.05% stake which is around 3.89 crore shares.

Rohan Murty: The largest shareholder in the Murthy family, with 1.465% ownership or 6.8 crore shares.

In 2023, Narayana Murthy made headlines after gifting 15 lakh shares worth Rs 240 crore to his four-year-old grandson, Ekagrah Murty; it was around 0.04% stake in Infosys and making him one of India’s youngest millionaires.
