KATA, a homegrown Japanese restaurant in Dubai, hosted an intimate chef’s table on Oct. 10 showcasing a specially crafted menu by award-winning Chef Marwan Sardouk.

Located in Downtown Dubai, KATA invited guests to the newly opened Japanese dining experience, with Asian flavors and zero-alcohol wines and beers.

Stepping inside KATA, guests are greeted by a mural, hand-painted on-site by renowned artist, designer, and illustrator Wong Ting Fung (aka TF). This bespoke artwork sets the stage for a welcoming ambience.

Upon opening its doors in November 2022, KATA combined dining with upscale recipes.

An expertly crafted menu by the award-winning Chef Sardouk uses a blend of Japanese precision and premium ingredients.

Complementing the culinary delights are the innovative mocktails, meticulously crafted by KATA’s resident mixologists.

These alcohol-free, spirits-infused concoctions add a touch of magic to every dining experience.

At the Chef’s Table, guests were first served a ‘Salmon Cylinder,’ a crusty potato filled with salmon in a smoke-filled glass bowl and a butternut squash filled with various cheeses covered in gold flakes, called ‘Autumn Leaves.’

The appetizers were served along with a zero-alcohol Sake.

Next came a seaweed and spinach salad, a Hamachi carpaccio with a miso sauce, and a wagyu truffle tartar.

These dishes came along with a zero-alcohol Asahi Super Dry beer, to complement the flavors. Guests were also asked to fill the cup of the person to their left in true Japanese fashion.

The entrées consisted of a baked Chilean seabass and a wagyu truffle rice pot, as well as a Reisling wine, which was also zero percent alcoholic.

For dessert, a Yuzu sorbet was served and a sweet called ‘Balloonium,’ shaped like an apple and filled with strawberry jam and cream.

The last drink of the night was a fresh berry cold brew tea to end the dinner.

KATA also serves an a-la-carte menu that includes sushi rolls and various mocktails.

At the Dubai Mall, the restaurant is open from 10 AM to 12 AM on weekdays and till 1 AM on weekends.
