After the heartbreaking demise of actor Matthew Perry, actress Gwyneth Paltrow took a trip down memory lane and recalled their brief, but ‘magical’ summer romance.
Paying tribute to her late friend, the Oscar-winning actress took to Instagram to express her profound grief and remember a cherished moment they had shared in 1993. In her post, she revealed that they first crossed paths at the Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts, where they were engrossed in their respective theatrical pursuits.
“I met Matthew Perry in 1993 at the Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts. We were both there for most of the summer doing plays. He was so funny and so sweet and so much fun to be with,” she began.

“We drove out to swim in creeks, had beers in the local college bar, kissed in a field of long grass,” Paltrow continued, reflecting on their magical summer. “He had shot the pilot of Friends but it had not aired yet. He was nervous, hoping his big break was just around the corner. It was. We stayed friends for a while until we drifted apart, but I was always happy to see him when I did.”

Despite losing touch in recent years, Paltrow was devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of her friend, as she expressed on Instagram. “I am super sad today, as so many of us are. I hope Matthew is at peace at long last. I really do,” she concluded.

Back in 2022, Matthew also mentioned his brief romance with the actress. While saying that the cast of ‘Friends’ knew their show was going to work and “change everyone’s lives forever,” he said, “Then we had to wait a summer before the show first aired.”
He went on to add, “I filled that summer with three notable things — gambling in Vegas at the behest of [‘Friends’ director] Jimmy Burrows; a trip to Mexico on my own; and a make-out session in a closet with Gwyneth Paltrow.”

Perry, tragically passed away on October 28, due to an apparent drowning at his Los Angeles home.
Besides Gwyneth, several Hollywood celebrities and a number of Bollywood stars also paid their respects and shared their heartfelt tributes to the television legend.
