For the 2025 Camry, Toyota will pair a 2.5-liter petrol engine with an electric drive system, enhancing power delivery in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.With the combustion models constituting 85 percent of current sales, Toyota underscores the role of enhanced hybrid performance and adherence to fuel economy regulations is steering this strategic shift.
In line with the automaker’s “multi-pathway” strategy, prioritising hybrid and plug-in hybrid demand, Toyota’s decision aligns with their anticipations of changing market preferences. The new hybrid powertrain, combined with an electronic all-wheel drive system, boasts of a combined 232 hp output, a 15 percent increment over the outgoing petrol-only Camry all-wheel drive.

Unveiling the ninth-gen Camry in Los Angeles, Toyota positioned it in a segment largely vacated by Detroit brands, with competitors like the Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, and Tesla Model 3. Despite competition, the Tesla Model 3 has outpaced the Camry in California, a pivotal market for Toyota.
However, specific details like pricing and fuel efficiency for the 2025 Camry remain undisclosed. Currently, the hybrid model holds a price premium of USD 1,500 to USD 2,000 over combustion-only models, justified by the perceived value of the hybrid powertrain. The current Camry hybrid stands at an impressive 52 mpg combined, saving USD 650 annually in fuel costs compared to the conventional four-cylinder model.

Toyota’s hybrid strategy, having previously propelled the Sienna minivan to an all-hybrid format, positions them strategically in a market where demand for such technology remains robust. David Christ, head of the Toyota brand in North America, noted that the Sienna, with an all-hybrid powertrain, is their second-fastest turning car, reflecting consumer preferences and reservations.
