When you look in your closet, are there clothes you’ve worn more times than you can count? Where the cost-per-wear is down to spare change? Here are seven pieces I live in…
It’s trench coat season in NYC, and I’m busting out the Sézane version I’ve had for years. It’s 100% cotton and looks great over any outfit — from fisherman sweaters, to party dresses, to pajamas when dropping the kids off at school.
When I wrote about clothes I wear on repeat six years ago, I included this black V-neck then, too! The cashmere is soft, the fit is relaxed, and the length hits just below the hip, making it the sweater I reach for all winter. Pair it with a red lipstick and jeans, and you’re good to go.
Another everyday workhorse is the red jumper from Spanish knitwear brand babaà. Their sweaters feel like heirlooms, and I love imagining a little niece or grandchild (!!) wearing this one day. Plus, in the bleak midwinter, a pop of red feels good. (This and this are lovely, too.)
I’m a firm believer that a) all movies should be 90 minutes or less and b) button-downs don’t have to feel work-y. They can be surprisingly sexy with a few buttons undone and the sleeves rolled up. One shirt I’ve loved lately is Alex Mill’s ruffle number. The paper poplin is lightweight and crisp, and I love how the collar gives the slightest nod to Jerry’s puffy shirt. (I’m into the olive and navy, too.)
When we were in Copenhagen last summer, cool women around town were wearing baggy black jeans, and I felt inspired to try them out. This Madewell pair drapes really well, and the extra deep black wash looks great.
A black dress always comes in handy, and I’ve found that this particular one can shapeshift into any mood you want, from formal for meetings and work events, to relaxed for drinks parties and dinner dates. It’s just short enough to feel flirty, and the tortoise buttons are a nice touch.
Finally, this gingham tote is my trusty Gary Walsh — it holds all my stuff on errands and kid jaunts, and I always pack it in my suitcase for trips, so we can use it for beach hangs and picnics, too. Bonus: It comes in 20 colors and patterns.
What about you? What are you wearing these days? I also pad around in these sneakers almost every day.
P.S. Let’s find this reader a self-love ring, and our favorite everyday nail polish.
