DUBAI: ‘Sky Falcon and the Lizard’, a new Emirati action/sci-fi comic by Arab Comics, was launched on Nov. 3 at Dubai’s Mangaya bookstore.
“I wanted to create a fresh new limited series with a story that has a plot twist at each corner,” said Rashid Al Rahmani, Founder and CEO of Arab Comics (AC Comics), to Arab News Japan regarding the inspiration behind the new comic.
“Since I’m a huge fan of fighter jets, bots, and mecha in general and inspired by action, adventure, and sci-fi stories …came the idea of introducing a totally new concept that can be intriguing to our Arab and international audiences,” he added.
About the challenges that he has faced working on the comic, Al Rahmani said, “The challenge was to make sure to create a story that was smooth, surprising, and engaging to all age groups. Then coming up with an appealing and exciting jet fighters and bots concept designs with relevant main characters, which was not easy. I’m really happy about the result. The rest depends on market reception and sales outcome.”
‘Sky Falcon and the Lizard’ has received positive feedback from readers so far. “If it grows further, we will definitely make more room to introduce similar stories and plots in the near future,” shared Al Rahmani.
AC Comics will be releasing two children’s books and a new comic in the upcoming months. “If all goes as planned, we will issue Part 2 of ‘Sky Falcon and Lizard’ given that we are seeing great demand from our audience,” the CEO added.
Fatima Al Tamimi, one of the founders of Mangaya said that she believes this launch is a big motivation for Emirati writers. “The launch event was exclusive and unique. I think it will be a qualitative leap for us as a store, and at the same time, it will give greater motivation and confidence to Emirati writers, especially in the world of comic books,” she said.
‘Sky Falcon and the Lizard’ comic is available now in Arabic. It will be available in English in the future.
