PLEASANTON — A school crossing guard suffered head injuries and was hospitalized early Thursday, police said.
In a statement, police said witnesses told police that a midsize SUV hit the crossing guard assigned to the intersection of Vineyard Avenue and Adams Way about 7:50 a.m. The intersection is near Valley View Elementary School.
Officers gave the crossing guard aid at the scene before an ambulance transported him to a hospital, where he was in stable condition. Police said the guard was apparently helping at least one child cross the street when he was hit. No other injuries were reported.
The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene and spoke with officers, police said. Alcohol, drugs and distracted driving are not believed to be factors in the crash, he said.
Police asked anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact then at 925-931-5100.
