New Delhi: Board exams will be conducted twice a year and students will be allowed to retain the best score, the Ministry of Education said Wednesday, outlining the new curriculum framework of the National Education Policy (NEP).
The government also said that students of Classes 11 and 12 needed to study two languages of which at least one should be Indian.
The ministry said the new curriculum framework and textbooks for the 2024 academic session were ready.
The ministry indicated that the practice of strictly adhering to textbooks within the classroom setting would be avoided, and efforts will be made to streamline and optimise the cost of textbooks.
According to the updated curriculum framework, those responsible for creating and assessing board exams should complete university-certified courses prior to engaging in this work.
The emphasis of the board examinations will be on evaluating students’ comprehension of the subjects, leading to a reduction in the need for extensive coaching and memorisation, according to reports.
The selection of subjects during the 11th and 12th grades would also no longer be confined to specific streams, granting students the flexibility to make their own choices.
