The US-based entrepreneur took to his X (formerly known as Twitter) handle, and posted “All Tesla Superchargers are free in Israel.” The announcement has gathered mixed responses on social media. While some people have appreciated the move, others have criticized it, saying that it is insensitive to the ongoing violence between the two neighbours.

Although Israel is not a major market for the US-based manufacturer, making the Superchargers free-to-use under such difficult circumstances will definitely help the owners to rapidly-charge their EVs and move them to a safer place as the war-like situation keeps escalating. Electric Vehicle sales in the Jewish country have surged exponentially in the post-Covid period, reaching a total of over 45,000 units in 2022 as compared to just under 4,500 in 2020.
Tesla is believed to be a major force behind this growth having entered the country in 2021. However, there are other manufacturers such as Tesla’s Chinese rival BYD and Geely Auto Group, that have contributed to the sales. The Superchargers being talked about here are high-voltage, direct-current EV chargers that have the availability to fully juice a Tesla model battery in under one hour. In fact, a mere 15-minute charge using the Tesla Supercharger will enable the EVs to cover over 300 kms.
