Rejoice, SF Giants fans: An affordable, family-friendly restaurant known for steak is opening near Oracle Park in San Francisco’s China Basin neighborhood.

Medium Rare, a small steakhouse chain from the Washington, D.C. area, is bringing its famous $28.95 meal to California for the first time. As first reported by the San Francisco Standard, the restaurant has signed a lease for 266 King St., in the former Tender Greens, with plans to open in summer 2024.

“San Francisco is a great city with a strong sense of community, and we look forward to being part of that,” Medium Rare co-owner Mark Bucher wrote in a statement emailed to SFGATE. He added that members of the San Francisco restaurant community have already reached out to welcome them, including Tyler Florence of Miller & Lux at Chase Center. Medium Rare has locations in Washington, D.C.; Arlington, Virginia; Bethesda, Maryland; and New Orleans.

The restaurant built its reputation on a set meal deal that includes sliced culotte steak with the restaurant’s proprietary “secret sauce,” hand-cut fries, green salad and artisan rustic bread for $28.95. The vegetarian and vegan-friendly option is grilled portobello mushroom with fire-roasted pepper sauce. Come very hungry, because Medium Rare offers free seconds of steak, fries and secret sauce. On weekends, an all-inclusive brunch ($31.95) comes with choice of steak frites, a portobello and steak eggs Benedict, or French toast with sausage, among other options. Also included is an array of drinks, including bottomless mimosas, screwdrivers or Bloody Marys.

For dessert, Medium Rare’s a la carte menu ($12) includes “Grandma’s” apple pie, three-layer double chocolate fudge cake, hot fudge sundae, Key lime pie and six-layer carrot cake.

It should be a welcome addition for Giants fans (and potentially even Warriors fans), particularly ones coming up the Peninsula on Caltrain. The location will be right in between 3rd and 4th streets on King, directly in the walking path from Caltrain’s San Francisco station to Oracle Park.
