MANILA, Philippines—As the first round of the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball nears its finish, College of St. Benilde’s Migs Oczon has emerged as the league’s leading scorer so far.

The sweet-shooting Blazer averaged 16.71 points after seven games. Agem Miranda of Jose Rizal University is second with 16.13 points per game while San Beda’s Jacob Cortez is third with 16 markers per outing.

Letran’s Kurt Reyson, who’s currently nursing a groin injury, sits at fourth with 15.43 points per game while current Collegiate Press Corps Player of the Week Clint Escamis of Mapua rounded out the top five with 14.5 markers averaged.

Escamis is also in the upper echelon of cagers in the assists department with 5.5 dimes per game, sitting at the second spot just behind Jose Rizal University’s JL Delos Santos with 6.13 dimes a game.

The rookie formerly out of University of the East, though, one-upped Delos Santos in the steals column with 4.38 per game. The Heavy Bomber, meanwhile, has 2.25 to his name.

Emilio Aguinaldo College’s JP Maguliano, meanwhile, is the lone player in the league with a double-digit average in rebounds with 10.43. San Sebastian’s Romel Calahat is posting norms of 9.5 boards per game to sit in second.

Former Player of the Week Shawn Umali, meanwhile, holds the fort in the blocking department with 1.88 swats a night.

The first round of the tournament officially ends on Sunday with a Season 98 Finals rematch between Benilde and Letran at San Juan Arena.

The second round will almost officially start right away on Tuesday, beginning with a bout between host team Heavy Bombers and the Pirates at the same venue.
