A man was found dead on a Bay Area hiking trail late last week following what appeared to be a fight, according to law enforcement officials.

Members of the Antioch Police Department and the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District were called to a section of the Delta de Anza Regional Trail near the 4100 block of Null Drive in Antioch around 9:30 a.m. on Friday following reports of a physical fight. Authorities were told that one of the people involved in the fight appeared to be unconscious.

At the scene, officers found one person — identified as a Black man in his mid 30s to 40s — who was unresponsive.

“After life saving measures were performed, the male was pronounced deceased on scene,” officers with the Antioch Police Department wrote in a news release

The release said the man’s death is being investigated as a homicide. The release did not name the man who died, nor did it specify whether investigators have identified a suspect. The department said it will not be releasing any additional details at this time.

Anyone with any information about the incident is encouraged to call a department detective at 925-779-6937, or the Antioch Police Department non-emergency line at 925-778-2441. Those with information may also text a tip to the department at 274637 using the keyword “ANTIOCH.”
